How to check the sensitivity of the watch

Posted on May 9, 2022 by lufuture

The sensitivity of a watch is the flexibility of its balance wheel to start automatically. Check it by:

1.

1. Gently shake the watch that has stopped moving without winding, and observe the second hand moving with the force of shaking: if the second hand stops moving in a short time, it means that the watch can go all the way after being fully wound (i.e. no torque of the winding), and the sensitivity is high; if the second hand continues to move for a long time, it means that the watch cannot go all the way after being fully wound (i.e. the winding also If the second hand continues to move for a long time, it means that the watch is not fully wound (i.e., the clockwork is still storing torque), the sensitivity is not high or the watch mechanism is faulty.

2. Turn the watch that has not been wound to stop moving, slowly turn the handle and observe the start of the second hand: the less the rotation of the upper bar, the earlier the start of the second hand means that the watch is more sensitive; otherwise, the sensitivity is low or the watch machine has other faults. However, it should be noted that a fast pendulum watch has to be wound a little more than a traditional frequency (18,000 times/hour) watch machine to start the pendulum due to the stiffness of the hairspring. A watch with high sensitivity continues to go longer after a full winding.
